Adjunct Associate Professor Owen Richards is the inventor of the Tree Nurturing System (TNS™) and Founder of Blue-Green Infrastructure. His patented technology redefines urban stormwater management by retaining rainfall at its source to create cooler, greener, and more climate-resilient cities. Patented in Australia, China, and the EU, with applications under review in India and the USA, the TNS™ integrates nature and infrastructure to reduce flood risk, enhance canopy cover, and restore natural water balance. Owen’s work bridges engineering and ecology, enabling cities to adapt to extreme weather while improving livability and biodiversity. As an Australian Research Council Industry Partner, he collaborates across academia, government, and industry to accelerate the global transition toward sustainable urban environments.
