Sometime after recording a short reflection about society’s exhaustion, I found myself watching an interview with a former CIA officer and whistleblower—and unexpectedly questioning the value of my own work.
Against the scale of intelligence agencies, governments, militaries, emerging technologies and institutions capable of affecting millions of lives, what does work centred upon consciousness and human potential actually amount to?
I sat with the question.
Eventually, another one emerged:
What kind of world will our increasingly powerful capabilities create if the consciousness directing them remains comparatively undeveloped?
That changed my perspective.
Perhaps developing consciousness is not separate from engaging the consequential problems of the world.
Perhaps it is one way of working closer to their source. Upstream
Because the future will not be created by our capabilities alone. It will be created by the human beings who wield them.
