As MANY of us have been hearing – sperm counts have been dropping significantly across industrialized nations throughout the last fifty years. Today’s science is now able to point to one common culprit: endocrine-disrupting chemicals! Plus, in addition to lower sperm count in men, they’re also linked to lower ovarian reserve in women.
These chemicals include BPA, phthalates, and heavy metals like lead and mercury. These chemicals are known to hide in plastics, pesticides, cosmetics, and food packaging.
Most of us are exposed all the time, every day, without realizing it!
But now, regulation is just starting to catch up. The EU banned BPA in food contact materials in January 2025, citing reproductive and immune system harm, and has restricted several reproduction-toxic phthalates since 2015. Countries like Sweden, Denmark, and France have also moved with their own national bans.
So if regulators across Europe have enough evidence to ban these chemicals outright, why are so many other countries, including the U.S., still waiting? Is it possible that we can cut these out once and for all, and over what timeline?
