βοΈπ§Άβ±οΈ Crochet that cools a city.
In a town in MΓ‘laga, Spain, more than 300 grandmothers came together to tackle extreme summer heat. After the town installed plastic shade covers that ended up trapping heat, they spent three years handcrafting a 60 meter canopy from leftover yarn. The colorful panels now cover 500 square meters of street, lowering temperatures by up to 5 degrees while transforming the town into a vibrant public space.
Beyond shade, the project has created connection and purpose, inspiring other towns across Spain to follow suit.
Could community made solutions like this help cities adapt to rising heat?
