A smarter way to grow trees in dry landscapes πΏποΈ
Dutch company Landlife developed the Cocoon, a biodegradable planter designed to help young trees survive in dry and degraded landscapes. Made from recycled cardboard, it stores water around a seedling and gradually delivers moisture to its roots while protecting it from harsh conditions.
With a reported 95% survival rate, the Cocoon uses a fraction of the water required by traditional planting methods. Landlife combines the technology with satellite data, drones, and soil analysis and has already planted more than 7 million trees worldwide.
Could solutions like this make large scale reforestation possible in even the harshest environments?
