Humans have been waging chemical warfare on soil since the end of WW2. The chemicals that were made to take human life on a scale never seen before in the history of humankind became the fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides used in conventional agriculture and horticulture. Soil is humanity's number 1 resource. Everything comes from soil. Yesterday was #worldsoilday2025 and we are losing topsoil to desertification faster than any other time.

We barely know anything about the planet's fungal network but we do know it's in trouble. Will the destruction of the natural world by humans ever end.

Helping me create a substrate that can be a part of the 4 per 1000 initiative. Working together we can heal the planet's topsoil and draw down 3 gigatons per year of atmospheric carbon into the soil. This is a simple low tech way of ensuring the continually of healthy soil and food for generations. Cheers Eoin

As I try to come up with a compost that can be spread on land to draw down carbon my son Tiernan is out talking to the animals

To achieve the 4 per 1000 or 0.04% increase of organic matter per acre of agricultural land we need to spread approx 9 tonnes per acre per annum. This will increase carbon offset by 3 gigatons per year.

The 4 parts per 1000 is the most effective way to combat the climate crisis and the impending food shortage crisis

Vermicast (worm compost) is the best way to help soil health and is a much more reliable fertilizer compared to chemical urea.

No matter what innovations we come up with if we lose our top soil we lose the fight to survive as a species. Topsoil is erroding at a second per acre. It's just blowing away and turning into desert. We must come together and act now.
