I am Jaivir Gulati, a 16-year-old student and the founder of Fabrecreate, a youth-led initiative that transforms textile waste into life-saving HOPE Jackets. The HOPE Jacket is a multi-functional, upcycled product designed from surplus fabrics that would otherwise end up in landfills. Each jacket is waterproof, insulated, and can be converted into a sleeping bag, giving displaced and underprivileged children warmth, protection, and dignity during harsh winters. This innovation doesn’t just protect children—it also empowers women. Fabrecreate works with women self-help groups (SHGs) who are trained and employed to stitch these jackets, providing them with sustainable income opportunities and financial independence. At the same time, Fabrecreate tackles the environmental crisis of textile waste. By upcycling thousands of meters of surplus fabric, we prevent waste from reaching landfills, reduce methane emissions, and cut down the carbon footprint of new fabric production. So far, over 7,000 HOPE Jackets have been distributed in India (Ladakh, Kargil, Mizoram, Darjeeling, Meghalaya, Delhi NCR), as well as in Ukraine and Myanmar, in partnership with organizations such as UNHCR, Nova Ukraine, Don Bosco, Rotary Club of Bombay Bayview, and HVT Foundation. Fabrecreate is not just a jacket project—it is a circular model that connects climate action, women empowerment, and child protection into one innovation.
