Every year, trillions of microplastic particles flow into our oceans, rivers, and even our drinking water. These fragments—too small to filter, too stubborn to degrade—pose a growing threat to ecosystems and human health. But what if we could pull them out of water using magnets? At our lab, we developed a groundbreaking method using ferrofluids—magnetic liquids—to attract and remove microplastics from contaminated water with extraordinary precision. Here’s how it works: 1. 🌐 Ferrofluid binds to microplastics, exploiting their slight electric charge and surface properties. 2. 🧲 A magnet draws out the ferrofluid, along with the microplastics attached to it. 3. 💧 What’s left? Clean water. No harsh chemicals, no damage to aquatic life. 🔬 In tests, this method removed up to 87% of microplastics in a single pass. It’s low-energy, scalable, and could one day be implemented in water treatment plants, industry, and even homes. ✨ We’re not just talking about cleanup. We’re talking about a new way to think about pollution—as something solvable.

At 16, I saw microplastics polluting the coastline near my home and I couldn’t ignore it. That moment changed everything. I realized innovation alone isn’t enough—we need a movement. So I started Green Journey Coalition to unite young people, scientists, and communities to fight pollution and push for real change. We’re not waiting. We’re acting. #GreenJourneyCoalition #YouthForClimate

At the Green Journey Coalition (GJC), we’re on a mission to remove microplastics from water using an unexpected tool: magnetic liquid technology. 🧲 Yes… we use a specially engineered magnetic ferrofluid that binds to microplastics, allowing them to be efficiently extracted from water. It’s clean, scalable, and inspired by nature and materials science. Why does it matter? Microplastics are now found in drinking water, oceans, and even the air we breathe. Current filtration systems can’t fully address them, so we’re building something better.
