The SCU MOTORSPORT LTD programme will include an electric race car to support the delivery of practical skills for working on Electric Vehicles. It will also support research around improving efficiency of EV systems and recycling. This reflects reality. A colleague wanted some work on his electric car...... he was told there is a 3 month waiting list. We were at a college in the UK about 12 months ago, discussing how we could support them with adopting motorsport.... we mentioned there would be an electric version of the race car and they said "Great..... we have a problem with electric skills training. We are 100 metres away from a main dealer and they have stopped taking our trainees as they do not have the correct skills". How can this be happening? EV's are commonplace, the adoption rate is increasing - but the numbers of trained technicians is falling.

SCU Motorsport is driving zero emissions into motorsport and creating a sustainable future by turning Quality Education (SDG 4) into immediate Climate Action (SDG 13). By using our high-performance research focused mobile learning platform (race car) in an education-based race series to pioneer zero-emissions powertrains and using AR/VR learning to improve accessibility for Neurodivergent learners, we fuel genuine Industry Innovation (SDG 9). Crucially, we are tearing down traditional barriers to entry through neurodiverse and physically inclusive design, Reducing Inequalities (SDG 10) in motorsport. The ultimate finish line? Fast-tracking diverse students straight out of the classroom into high-value, high-demand careers, driving both Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) and creating transferable skills to support a green transport sector.
