The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, and the second best is now! We’d like to add that one tree is not enough – plant a whole forest! 🌳 🌳 🌳 Our mission is to give individuals an opportunity to gradually build a tangible, positive environmental impact by joining forest restoration at scale, and to make it as easy and convenient as possible while addressing downsides of existing solutions. We are not “just another tree planting initiative” Researching the topic of tree planting and carbon offsets, we’ve encountered various issues with many initiatives, such as: ❌ Not showing how many trees are needed to offset carbon footprint, which creates a false sense of doing enough and discourage further action, which can do more harm than good. ❌ Not including trees’ survivability rates and projecting CO2 recapture rates of adult trees to all seedlings, or even not reporting on individuals’ impact at all. ❌ Reforesting industrial plantations as part of their production cycle, which do not add additional forest cover or increase biodiversity. That’s why we are developing our project to: 🌳 Show how many trees are really needed to offset carbon footprint in each country. 🌳 Include trees’ survivability, averaging CO2 recapture rates through the whole lifecycle, which prevents impact overestimation and allows to report progress in a real-time manner. 🌳 Aim to make a true land cover change and create new diverse forests and woodlands with mostly ecological functions, using only native species, to make the most of local conditions. With just a few clicks you can choose your planting plan, gradually planting a whole forest and making a tangible impact. We handle the rest with our local partners, planting trees in your name, and reporting on your positive impact 📈 Several municipalities have already expressed interest in partnering with us, pledging the land for over 10 million trees with the potential for much more! Now we need more contributors to complete our first planting batch and jumpstart field operations.

We’d like to remind you that you can still vote for us in the INSPIRED Innovator Contest! Visit our profile @greenwedge.insp.social and click the 'Vote' button. We’re already in top 20% innovations but there is still a long way to go! We’d really appreciate your support, and as always also encourage you to support nature restoration through our tree planting plans 🌳

How many trees do you need to compensate for your carbon footprint? More than you think! Although an adult tree could even recapture over 20 kg of CO2 per year, not every planted tree will reach maturity due to natural causes. 🌱 Calculating our impact, we include not only aboveground and belowground biomass increase, and carbon land losses, but also survivability rates of trees, so you don't have to worry that some of them won't grow old – it’s already accounted for. It is also important to note that average greenhouse gas emissions per person are measured in tons, which seems a lot, but each of us may offset them through systematic action. Through the handy estimator on our website, you can check how many trees you need to offset average emissions in your country and start planting a whole forest with just a few clicks! 🌳 🌳 🌳
In the background there is a photo of a broadleaf tree with the sky peeking through the branches. At the center of the picture, on white rectangular background, with rounded corners, there is a screenshot presenting an emission estimator from the Green Wedge’s website, showing country selector, emission per capita in the selected country and amount of trees needed to offset that. Below there are showcased two planting plans in two columns. One for 15 and second for 30 trees monthly, with presented yearly impact of both of them, including number of trees planted, restored area of forest, increase in CO2 capture rate ant total amount of recaptured CO2. Under the impact data there are green “start planting” buttons, and below is the Green Wedge logo. At the bottom there is a website address: greenwedge.eco.

Our project won’t be possible without the support received through the Social Tides Aspire incubation program. Social Tides is a program powered by the INCO Group, aimed to empower social innovators tackling sustainable development challenges. We’d like to express our gratitude for everyone involved in this program, and hope for similar opportunities in the future! 💚

On that, there is a white rectangle with rounded corners, on which there isa logo of the Green Wedge (a triangle in two shades of green overlayed/wedged into the grey hexagonal outline, with the name Green Wedge in a green font to the left), a text “is possible thanks to the” below, and Social Tides logo beneath it (in one line a green circle and name Social Tides between two semicircles – blue on the left and red on the right).

Robust tracking and reporting are important elements of a sustainable change 📈 Here are the impact data we currently provide to every user in a real-time manner: 🌳 Yearly CO2 emission (presented currently as a per capita value in each country) 🌳 Yearly CO2 recapture rate 🌳 Offset rate in % 🌳 Total amount of recaptured CO2 🌳 Number of planted trees 🌳 Restored forest area 🌳 Trees left until reaching full carbon balance You can also opt in for monthly email reports! In our calculations, we include trees’ survivability, which prevents impact overestimation, showing how many trees are really needed to be planted to compensate for the average carbon footprint. It also allows for reporting progress in a real-time manner, and even accounts for the time of seedlings growing in the nursery. That’s why you can see progress from day one! In the future we plan to extend reporting on other ecosystem services. Get your planting plan on our website and build a significant impact through forest restoration 💚
In the background there is a photo of a broadleaf tree with the sky peeking through the branches. At the top of the picture there is a header: “Data-driven climate action through forest restoration” written in white font on the green background. At the center of the picture, on white rectangular background, with rounded corners, there are two columns of sample parameters: yearly CO2 emission, current offset, number of planted trees on the left, and yearly CO2 recapture rate, total amount of recaptured CO2, and area of restored forests on the right. Each of them have additional icons, representing each parameters, values, and names of those parameters. Above them there is a text “Sign up to our tree planting plans and get feedback on your impact”. Below is the Green Wedge logo. At the bottom there is a website address: greenwedge.eco.
