Walking everyday 6 miles in the countryside is having such a positive impact on how I feel and the energy I bring back to the studio when I get back. I feel completely energised and with a much clearer head after each walk. Since I started doing this at the beginning of this year I have not look back since and I have even started having some lucid dreams which is what this painting is about.
This painting was initially about a horseman and his horse. The painting wasn't working in many ways and for a while it was in the studio waiting for its conclusion. After an intense night of lucid dreaming I went to the studio and worked on it until it's current stage which by now it is pretty final. The horseman and his horse are still there but most importantly for me, the painting has now so many extra layers of meaning and nuance that weren't there before and for that I am grateful.

Lately, my time in the studio has been consumed by this painting that has taken on a life of its own.
What began as a simple portrait of one of my sisters has transformed into a playful depiction of her little new kitten, Manolo, who now takes the central focus of the canvas.
This unexpected shift in direction has been both challenging and fun, as I find myself immersed in the intricate details of Manolo's playful expressions and the soft textures of his fur. The process has allowed me to explore how to paint animals and deepen my understanding of color and light, all while capturing the essence of this charming little pussycat
Manolo, named after our uncle, carries a sense of familial connection that adds an extra layer of meaning to the artwork. Interestingly, our uncle is also the proud owner of another cat, also named Manolo, creating an invisible thread of continuity within our family.
As I paint, I can't help but reflect on the joy and warmth that pets bring into our lives, and how this little kitten has become a symbol of love and companionship. Each brushstroke not only brings Manolo to life on the canvas but also serves as a reminder of the bonds we share, making this piece truly special. After having lose one of our beloved dogs, Manolo has brought so much needed joy to us as a family...and just like that my sister is no longer the subject of this post (more to come on this one soon...)
