Did you know that more than 50% of global energy use is heat - and an even greater share dominates industrial energy consumption. This is why we set out to tackle the often overlooked elephant in the room of the energy transition.
At Kraftblock we decarbonise process heat of industries from low to high temperature between 100 °C and 1,300 °C, for food, chemicals, steel and many more sectory. To match renewable energy with industrial processes, the core piece of our plants is the Kraftblock, a thermal energy storage.
For 5 years we developed a sustainable storage material upcycled from steel slag and bound to pellets using nanotechnology. This material is the key to high heat capacity and conductivity and the perfect storage material that doesn't degrade and is stable at very high temperatures. A fraction of the prices of an battery and more efficient for replacing fossil fuels in heat generation make it a ground-breaking technology.
And you can see its success in project like Volt where we decarbonise a Dutch potato chips factory of PepsiCo with Eneco to produce Lay's chips with green heat. The best thing is its economics: We only buy electricity when it is abundant and thus very cheap. This helps to creat a competitive electrification price plus it brings down costs for the overburdened electricity grids.
