Swiss scientists at EMPA have created a fully #biodegradable battery powered by two types of #fungi. Yeast at the anode releases electrons, while white rot fungus at the cathode captures them using natural enzymes.
The microbes are 3D-printed into cellulose-based ink, keeping them alive and allowing the entire battery to break down harmlessly after use. Small devices can run for days, making this ideal for remote sensors in agriculture and environmental research.
