This ferry doesn’t just float. It flies! 🚤🪽 In Stockholm, electric hydrofoil ferries are transforming public transport by lifting above the water on underwater wings. By reducing drag by up to 80%, they travel faster while using significantly less energy than conventional ferries. The results are impressive: travel times on a 15 km route have been cut from nearly an hour to around 30 minutes, CO₂ emissions have fallen by more than 90%, and energy use has dropped by roughly 66%. The quieter, low wake design also helps protect shorelines and improve passenger comfort. 🌬️🏞️🔋 A wind turbine that fits in your backpack. Shine 2.0 is a portable turbine designed for life on the move. It folds to the size of a water bottle, sets up in minutes, and generates up to 50 watts of power. With auto-adjusting blades and performance starting at low wind speeds, it can charge devices like phones, laptops, and drones almost anywhere. A companion app provides real-time data on wind and energy output. This kind of off grid power could change how we think about energy access in travel, emergencies, and remote work. 🌊🔋⚡Ocean waves that power the grid. Swedish company CorPower Ocean has developed sea buoys that generate power by moving with waves. Inspired by the pumping action of the human heart, each buoy tunes itself to match incoming wave rhythms, capturing up to three times more energy than traditional devices. When storms hit, the system detunes to protect itself. Full-scale units are now feeding electricity into the grid off the coast of Portugal. With waves offering predictable, round the clock energy, could the ocean become a reliable pillar of clean power? #waveenergy #renewableenergy #oceantech #sustainability #climatetech corpowerocean.com
🌞🔋🧹Water-free maintenance for solar farms. Solar farms lose up to 30% of their panel efficiency in just one month due to dust buildup, and traditional cleaning methods use around 30 billion gallons of fresh water every year, enough to meet the needs of 2 million people. Engineers at MIT have created a waterless, no-contact system that uses electrostatic repulsion to clear dust from solar panels. A transparent conductive layer charges with a small voltage, pushing particles away and restoring as much as 95% of lost power without scratching the surface. Could this be the future of solar panel maintenance? #renewableenergy #cleantech #sustainability #climateaction #solarenergy news.mit.edu/2022/solar-p...
🍄🧫🔋Fungi that generate electricity. Swiss scientists at EMPA have created a fully #biodegradable battery powered by two types of #fungi. Yeast at the anode releases electrons, while white rot fungus at the cathode captures them using natural enzymes. The microbes are 3D-printed into cellulose-based ink, keeping them alive and allowing the entire battery to break down harmlessly after use. Small devices can run for days, making this ideal for remote sensors in agriculture and environmental research. Would you power your devices with a mushroom battery? 🌊🪁⚡Kites turning ocean energy into clean power. Swedish company Minesto has created Dragon 12 - a tidal kite that glides through underwater currents to generate up to 1.2 megawatts of clean power, enough for about 1,000 homes. Anchored to the seabed, it flies in a figure-eight pattern, moving faster than the current to produce several times more energy than a fixed turbine. With plans for large-scale Dragon Farms, Minesto aims to supply over half of the Faroe Islands’ clean energy needs through predictable, renewable tides. ⏳🔋Turning sand into a battery. In Finland, Polar Night Energy has built the world’s first sand battery - a breakthrough that stores excess renewable energy as heat. The system uses simple materials like sand and steel to hold temperatures up to 600°C, keeping energy available for months. That stored heat can then warm homes, offices, and even pools, providing a steady, affordable source of clean power for up to 10,000 people. Could this be the future of renewable energy storage? ☀️🌬️⚡Energy that never stops. IBIS Power developed a rooftop system that combines #wind and #solar energy to produce up to ten times more #electricity than standard panels. Its bifacial solar panels capture sunlight from both sides, while integrated wind turbines cool the panels and generate power day and night. Designed for multi-story buildings, the system can supply enough clean energy for a 15-story residence. Would you want rooftops like this powering your city?
