Omega 3 grown from whisky waste 🧪🌊
Biotech company MiAlgae is growing microalgae using nutrient rich by-products from the whisky industry. Instead of relying on fish as a source of Omega 3, the company grows the algae directly in fermentation tanks, producing DHA rich Omega 3 for fish feed and pet food.
One tonne of MiAlgae’s algae can produce as much Omega 3 as 620,000 fish, while its new facility is expected to recycle around 33 million litres of whisky by-products each year.
