Smallholder farmers in Kenya are often locked out of finance. No collateral. No credit history. Too risky. Yet these are the people who feed Kenya! At Grofunder, we believe in Ubuntu, the idea that I am because we are. In Kenya, we call it Harambee. It is the belief that we are our neighbour’s keeper and that community matters. This is Africa’s social capital, and it is the foundation of how we work. By partnering with farmer cooperatives, we rely on trust, shared responsibility, and collective reputation to issue, monitor, and recover input loans at lower cost and with less risk. Why does is matter? Grofunder helps farmers access quality seeds and fertilizer on time. When a farmer plants well, they harvest more. When they sell, they earn. Their families eat, children stay in school, and parents can access healthcare. Communities thrive! We are proud to have signed an MOU with a farmer cooperative in Western Kenya to support 1,400 farmers as we test this community driven model. When farmers grow, families and communities grow with them.
