Corporate & Technology SoftBank shares fell almost 12% in Tokyo on Monday as investors reacted to growing calls from leading artificial intelligence executives for the industry to slow development of models. The Japanese group has committed $64.6 billion to OpenAI, making its shares sensitive to any change in expectations for AI investment and commercial growth. SoftBank has also secured an $11.87 billion loan to support its OpenAI funding commitments. South Korea's expanded espionage law has taken effect, widening the definition of espionage beyond activity involving enemy states. The change is intended partly to strengthen protection of strategic technology, including semiconductors, displays and batteries, as governments become concerned about industrial secrets leaving domestic companies. Technology & Investment Nvidia is reportedly considering investing as much as $10 billion as an anchor investor in Anthropic's potential initial public offering. The proposed listing could raise as much as $100 billion and value Anthropic at close to $2 trillion, although the plans remain preliminary. A commitment from Nvidia would further deepen the chipmaker's financial links across the AI ecosystem after a series of investments in companies that use its hardware.
