Corporate & Technology Tencent-backed Enflame Technology has delivered one of China's most dramatic stock-market debuts of the year. Shares in the artificial intelligence chip developer closed 179% above their offer price on Friday after raising about $912 million through its Shanghai STAR Market listing. The surge lifted Enflame's market value to roughly 171 billion yuan and highlights strong investor demand for Chinese alternatives to Nvidia. Enflame remains loss-making but expects revenue of up to 3 billion yuan during the first nine months of 2026 and plans to invest its IPO proceeds in next-generation AI processors and computing systems. Japan's Kioxia is, meanwhile considering a US listing through American Depositary Shares, potentially giving the memory-chip manufacturer greater exposure to global AI investors. Kioxia shares have risen more than 450% this year as demand for advanced memory used in data centres has strengthened globally. Artificial Intelligence & Infrastructure The United Arab Emirates is redesigning a major artificial intelligence data-centre project after Iranian attacks highlighted the vulnerability of Gulf technology infrastructure. Plans for the five-gigawatt campus are shifting towards a network of facilities across the UAE, with officials considering underground construction, blast-resistant materials and additional security measures. The project forms part of the Stargate UAE initiative involving major US technology companies.

Corporate & Technology Oracle has delivered another powerful signal that artificial intelligence infrastructure spending remains elevated. Its cloud-infrastructure revenue reached $7.4 billion in the latest quarter, up 121% from a year earlier, while quarterly capital expenditure surged to $28.49 billion. Oracle continues to expect between $90 billion and $95 billion of capital spending for the year as it expands computing capacity for AI customers. Shares rose more than 7% in after-hours trading following the results. Big Law is also moving deeper into artificial intelligence infrastructure. Latham & Watkins has purchased Nvidia GPU servers and begun customising open-weight AI models inside its own systems. The approach allows the firm to keep highly sensitive client information away from external cloud providers while giving its technology teams greater control over models and computing costs. The firm now employs more than 900 technology specialists, including AI and machine-learning engineers. Palantir has meanwhile expanded its work with Nvidia around so-called sovereign AI. The companies are combining Palantir software with Nvidia's Nemotron open models, targeting organisations that want greater control over their data and AI infrastructure. AI investment remains intense. Technology & Investment Quantum computing is attracting growing investor attention as governments and companies increase spending beyond generative AI. Bank of America analysts described quantum as a potentially transformative new computing paradigm, while US government backing has supported companies including Rigetti, D-Wave and Quantinuum. Enterprise research budgets for quantum technology have also increased substantially since 2023.

Corporate & Technology OpenAI is deepening its relationship with Samsung Electronics as it develops next-generation artificial intelligence chips. OpenAI Korea chief Harrison Kim said the companies have made significant progress on joint production and research involving future processors, although details remain limited. Samsung is also one of the largest corporate deployments of ChatGPT globally, with employees using the service across research, marketing and sales. The cooperation broadens OpenAI's semiconductor strategy beyond existing chip suppliers. Meta has meanwhile acquired Swedish artificial intelligence startup Stilla.ai to accelerate development of Meta Business Agent. Stilla's technology and team will support AI systems designed to help businesses interact and transact with customers through WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. The Stockholm company emerged from stealth earlier this year after raising $5 million, and Meta plans to expand its presence in Sweden following the transaction. European software is also seeing consolidation. Silver Lake plans to combine French software groups Cegid and Silae into a business valued at more than €10 billion. The merged company is expected to generate about €1.6 billion in annual revenue and increase investment in artificial intelligence as traditional enterprise-software providers adapt to rapid technological change.

Corporate & Technology Qualcomm has struck a major long-term artificial intelligence chip agreement with Amazon, giving the cloud giant the ability to purchase up to $60 billion of Qualcomm data-centre chips and related products. Amazon also received warrants worth about $4 billion that could allow it to buy up to 25 million Qualcomm shares at $161.26 each. The companies will develop custom processors focused on AI inference alongside high-speed optical connectivity technology. Qualcomm shares rose more than 3% following the announcement as the company pushes to diversify beyond smartphones and challenge Nvidia in AI infrastructure. European artificial intelligence company Mistral has raised €3 billion at a valuation of around €21 billion, or $24 billion, in the largest equity funding round secured by a privately owned European technology company. Samsung Electronics and the EU-backed Scaleup Europe Fund joined PSG Equity in leading the round. Mistral says the funding will support frontier research and development of its AI models, while the company is on track to reach $1 billion in annual recurring revenue by the end of 2026. Samsung has also announced a strategic partnership with Mistral that will bring the French company's AI technology into Samsung's semiconductor operations. Work is underway. Technology & Regulation The United States has accused six Chinese AI companies, including DeepSeek, Moonshot AI and Alibaba, of using American models to accelerate development through large-scale distillation. US officials allege the companies targeted technology from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and SpaceX. The allegations arrive shortly before planned US-China talks on AI safety and add another source of tension to the global technology race.

Corporate & Technology OpenAI has signed a multi-year agreement with Nvidia-backed Firmus to secure computing capacity from two artificial intelligence data centres in Malaysia. The deal makes OpenAI an anchor customer and takes Firmus' contracted capacity across customers above 900 megawatts. Firmus, valued at more than $10.5 billion in its latest fundraising, is preparing five additional AI data centres across the Asia-Pacific region and plans to deploy Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin processors at scale. British semiconductor materials company IQE has meanwhile returned to a first-half core profit as demand connected to AI and data centres strengthened. The company also intends to move its shares from London's AIM market to the main market during the first half of 2027. Technology & Communications India has joined a US-led international initiative involving 24 countries that aims to shape the development of next-generation 6G networks. The move adds another major economy to international efforts to influence the standards, security and infrastructure behind future mobile networks.

Corporate & Technology China's fast-growing artificial intelligence chip industry is putting fresh pressure on Nvidia's dominance. Enflame, one of the country's leading domestic AI processor developers, has priced its Shanghai IPO at 142.18 yuan per share and aims to raise about 6.1 billion yuan, or $908 million. The offering values the company at roughly $9.1 billion. Enflame's quarterly revenue has increased around fifteenfold as Chinese customers seek alternatives to foreign processors, although the company remains unprofitable. The wider semiconductor sector is also starting the week strongly in Asia. South Korea's Kospi jumped more than 3%, with Samsung Electronics gaining around 4.5% and SK Hynix rising more than 6%. Japan's Nikkei also advanced as investors continued to favour companies exposed to artificial intelligence hardware, memory and data-centre investment. Fresh industry figures underline the scale of the boom. Global semiconductor sales reached $146.8 billion in July, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association, rising 6.4% from June and an extraordinary 135.1% from a year earlier. Year-to-date chip sales have already exceeded the industry's previous full-year record.

Corporate & Technology Foxconn says its third-quarter performance should exceed market expectations as demand for artificial intelligence servers continues to strengthen. The Taiwanese manufacturer, a major supplier to Nvidia and Apple, reported record August revenue of T$921.8 billion, or about $29.15 billion, representing growth of almost 52% from a year earlier. Foxconn said AI demand and the seasonal peak for consumer electronics should support momentum, although it remains cautious about geopolitical and economic uncertainty. India is also preparing another major expansion of AI infrastructure. A Tata Consultancy Services subsidiary and its partners plan to invest as much as 700 billion rupees, approximately $7.4 billion, in a one-gigawatt AI data-centre campus in Telangana. The project adds to a wave of power and computing investment as countries compete to host infrastructure for advanced AI models. South Korea has meanwhile surpassed its previous full-year export record. Exports have reached $709.4 billion, driven by extraordinary demand for semiconductors used in AI systems. Chip exports between January and August climbed nearly 170% to $281 billion and now account for about 41% of the country's exports.

Corporate & Technology Qualcomm shares jumped around 8% on Friday as semiconductor stocks helped drive the Nasdaq Composite to a fresh record high. The S&P 500 gained 0.8% Friday. Nvidia also advanced, but attention broadened across the semiconductor sector as markets continued to assess the scale of spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure. Anthropic is reportedly preparing to launch marketing for a potentially enormous initial public offering in mid-October. Reuters reported that the AI developer is expected to file its prospectus in late September and is working on a $15 billion revolving credit facility ahead of meetings with analysts. The timetable remains subject to change, but the proposed listing could become a major test of public-market demand for standalone artificial intelligence companies. The United States and China are also preparing for dedicated talks on artificial intelligence safety in mid-September. Discussions are expected to cover risks from autonomous AI agents, cyberattacks and possible information-sharing between the two countries. The talks would represent an unusual area of cooperation as Washington and Beijing continue to compete intensely over advanced chips and AI technology.
