Daily Market & Technology Information – Tuesday 15th September 2026 Good morning, and welcome to today's Daily Market & Technology Information. Corporate & Technology MediaTek has launched its latest flagship smartphone processors as competition intensifies around artificial intelligence on mobile devices. The Dimensity 9600 Pro is the company's first smartphone chip manufactured using TSMC's advanced 2-nanometre process, while the 9600M uses 3-nanometre technology. MediaTek says the Pro's new neural processing unit improves generative-AI performance by 51% compared with its predecessor. Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo are expected to use the new processors, strengthening MediaTek's challenge to Qualcomm in premium smartphones. Micron Technology is meanwhile facing renewed labour pressure in Taiwan, a critical centre for production of DRAM and high-bandwidth memory used in AI servers. Unions representing workers at Micron's largest manufacturing operation are demanding a permanent profit-sharing system and say strike preparations remain active unless the company makes a concrete proposal. The dispute matters because Taiwan is a production hub for the memory chips increasingly required by advanced artificial-intelligence servers. Artificial Intelligence & Economy Investors have become more cautious after leading industry figures called for slower development of increasingly powerful models. Indian technology shares nevertheless rallied sharply on Tuesday, with the Nifty IT index rising as much as 5.20%. Fresh Chinese economic data also showed the country's technology sector outperforming weaker parts of the economy. Industrial output rose 5.2% year-on-year in August, supported by high-tech manufacturing and AI-related exports, while retail sales increased only 0.4%. Fixed-asset investment fell 7.2% during the first eight months, highlighting the continuing gap between China's technology expansion and subdued domestic demand.
