πΏ Strengthening Youth Voices in Central Province! πΏ
Today, our Pacific Regional Representative for the Commonwealth Students Association (CSA) & CYPAN Country Representative joined youth leaders from Central Province, Hiri, and Vanapa Brown LLGs at the Laloki Nursing College Hall to discuss and advocate for the establishment of a Central Provincial Youth Council.
Representing CSA,and the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN), the engagement focused on empowering young people to take part in decision-making through structured youth representation.
Starting from Ward Youth Councils, to District Youth Councils, and finally to the Provincial Youth Council, the discussion was insightful and forward-looking, as the Central Province Youth Coordinator, Mr. Joseph K, highlighted the importance of building strong, connected youth networks at every level.
βThe enthusiasm and leadership shown by Central youths are inspiring. Weβre committed to supporting their efforts toward forming a provincial youth council,β said the CSA Pacific Representative.
β¨Together, we continue empowering young people to lead, connect, and create positive change across Papua New Guinea.

πΏ Our Mangroves Are Disappearing πΏ
We are a small coastal community living near the PNG LNG plant site, and our mangrove forests are slowly disappearing.
These trees protect our shoreline, support fish and crabs, and sustain our way of life, but little by little, we are losing them.
During Environment Day, we collected and planted mangrove seedlings with our local people to restore whatβs being lost.
Itβs a small step, but an important one for our future, our food security, and our coastline.
Mangroves are life
We must protect them now before theyβre gone.π
π Ocean Day Cleanup β Loloata Area πΏ
Our small team of three from the Veadi Eregabe Association joined a volunteer cleanup near Loloata Island Resort in Central Province! We helped remove plastic bags and marine litter from the island area to protect our ocean and wildlife.
This effort follows our recent Peace Beach cleanup at Papa Village, and weβre proud to keep contributing to cleaner coasts and stronger community awareness.
Every small action matters! πβ»οΈ
π Peace Beach Cleanup - Papa Village πΏ
Our small team of three from the Veadi Eregabe Association organized a volunteer cleanup at Peace Beach in Papa Village!
With support from the village councilor and amazing local youth volunteers, we came together to care for our coastline and community.
Big thanks to everyone who joined hands with us! π
Looking out from Papa village at the PNGLNG site, the crisis is visible and demands practical action now.
The deteriorating mental health of our youth and the heavy load on our land and sea, driven by the LNG project, present a clear opportunity: we must immediately engage our young people in meaningful, measurable mitigation strategies right here on the ground.
This includes reviving our traditional skills and moving towards sustainable, local agriculture as a source of health and income. This is about giving them control over their stolen future.
I am deeply concerned that our youth receive little climate education. They see the environmental impact daily the erosion, the development but without proper knowledge, they cannot organize effective action to protect our food gardens and coastal areas. That education must be grounded in our local reality.
I am inspired to fight community inequalities now because disasters, like king tides, always hit those with the smallest land and poorest yields hardest. Addressing the imbalance in resources and land ownership that affects our ability to maintain subsistence agriculture before the next storm is essential; justice now is disaster preparation.
I am worried and determined. Our lands, seas, and forests are being stolen by this development, and this directly threatens our agricultural traditions and food security. Our environment is degrading, our youth are unmotivated, and our future is disappearing. We must rise and act now to reclaim our agency and lead the change here at home.
I have started an informal group called for action against this, but unfortunately no support in action to resolve this.
Hey everyone π, my name is Bryan Chan Pokiton from Papua New Guinea. Iβm one of six co-founders of Visionary Tribe, a youth-led organization we started during the UNDP National Youth Mock Parliament in 2024. Our mission is to integrate basic human rights education into PNGβs school system, starting with a pilot program to protect and empower students from primary to university level.
Weβre currently seeking funding and partnerships** to launch this project, which was nationally recognized when it placed second at the UNDP event. If youβre passionate about education, youth empowerment, or human rights, Iβd love to connect and explore how we can work together to bring this vision to life. π±β
The recent heartbreaking news about a 17-year-old Grade 11 student who tragically lost his life after being severely beaten at a school boarding house is a painful reminder of the urgent need for change in our education system. π According to The National (PNG), this incident highlights a deeper issue β the lack of awareness among young people, from as early as Grade 3 through to university level, about their βbasic human rights and constitutional protectionsβ.
At Visionary Tribe, we believe that knowledge is power, and every child deserves to grow up in an environment where they are safe, respected, and empowered. This tragedy reflects a gap that we are determined to bridge by incorporating basic human rights education into schools, starting with awareness programs, research, and advocacy.
No student should fear violence or mistreatment in a place meant for learning. Our mission is to ensure that the next generation understands their rights, knows their voice matters, and grows up as responsible and empowered citizens of Papua New Guinea. π±β
